Although Japanese eats various kinds a lot of meat, one day I realized that one of them might be hard to accept from other countries' point of view.
熊本のお客さんとやり取りをした後、無性に思ったことがありました。

After dealing with a customer from Kumamoto, this just came up to my mind.
W=Wakatamu C=Exchange student from China
わ 「あー、馬肉食べたいなあ」
W "I'm craving for horse meat"
中留 「 ばにく って何ですか？」
C "Do you mean Baniku (aka horse meat)?
わ 「 馬の肉、馬刺しって言って刺身にしても美味しいし、馬の焼肉は最高だね」
W "Horse meat, horse sashimi (raw horse meat), they are all so good. Horse meat is the best! Don't you agree?"
中留 「、、、、野蛮ですね。」
C "Wow, so wild..."
わ 「えっ？」
W "hmm?"
中留 「馬を食べるのはかわいそうです。」
C "It's a pity to eat a horse"
わ 「あ、そうだよね。」
W "Ah yeah"
中留 「うちでも飼ってるし、かわいそうですよ」
C "Poor horse.. actually I have one as a pet"
わ 「あ、ごめんごめん（てか、飼っとるんかい！）」
W "Oh I'm so sorry (I mean I don't know you have a horse as a pet)“
そして昼飯の後
After lunch
中留 「そういえばこの間中国行きましたね、美味しかったですか？」
C "By the way, I've heard that you went to China for a while. How do you like the food there?"
わ 「うん、全部うまかった」
W "Everything was so delicious"
中留 「 鳩は食べましたか？」
C "Have you tried pigeon meat?"
わ 「うん、安徽省の屋台で食べた。初めて食べたけど結構美味しいね」
W "Yes, I have. I had it at a food stall in Anhui. I ate for the first time, but it was quite good"
中留 「それは良かったです。」
C "That's great"
食べたことがあってよかったですが、実は食べる時、鳩かよ〜って正直おもいましたが、食べてみたら美味かった 笑
It was good to have eaten it but to be honest when I was eating it I was like.. omg this is a dove! Anyway, after I tried it, I have to admit that it tastes good lol
もし食べたことなかったら前半の馬肉の対応みたいにきっとなっていたことでしょう。
If I have never tried it, I would have surely been like the horse case.
これは国というよりは人なのかもしれませんが、それぞれの育った環境で接してきたいきもので感じていくものなんだろうなと。
食べるときに、もともとの映像が想像できるものはきついのかな～と
This may depend on a person rather than a country, but if you try it, it will become your own experience with those different environments that you encountered.
Anyway, you have to overcome your comfort zone to try new kind of food, especially when you can imagine the original form of it.

Well, writing this is a bit hard for me as well
私もたいがい馬肉好きですが、海外の方と話すときは気を付けるようにしないとと思いました。。。
I also like horse meat very much but I think I should be careful when I am talking to foreigners.
ツボとしては、同じものを見て、かわいいかっこいいと思う人と、おいしそうと思う人がいるってことですね。
At the end of the day, people have different opinions towards the same thing: some might think it is cute while some might think it looks delicious.
